Modern bronze sculpturePublished: Thursday 22 July, 2010
Bronze sculpture is a cool art medium that can produce a lot of large items, such as busts and other sculptures. Bronze is the most popular type of metal for casting sculptures. The reason is because many bronze alloys used have an unusual quality for metals that give it time to expand a little before the sets of bronze, so it has the ability to fill all the little details into a mold. The bronze is a metal strong and not brittle. This helps to make a bronze sculpture, and many other types of materials such as ceramic and stone can have a tendency to be brittle and chipping. The disadvantage of a bronze sculpture is the value of the material. Very few ancient bronze sculptures still exist because many of the sculptures were melted down to commemorate a victory over another country or melted down to make weapons. The Greeks were the first to start the expansion of size bronze statues. There are still some examples of this, as the victorious athlete was preserved by the sea water and was rescued to display in a museum. There are many more examples of Roman sculpture in bronze. The ancient Chinese and Egyptians also learned different techniques to create beautiful masterpieces in bronze. Many of these statues and other bronze works are displayed in museums today. |
